  It’s a bittersweet moment for coaster fans and longtime visitors of Silver Dollar City . After more than 33 years of thrills, Thunderation is officially set to retire, with its final season running through 2026 and its last ride scheduled for January 2, 2027. Since opening in 1993, Thunderation has been a rite of passage for so many guests. Built by Arrow Dynamics, this runaway mine train coaster hugs the Ozark terrain with over 3,000 feet of twisting track and has carried more than 27 million riders over the years. For many of us, it wasn’t just a ride — it was the first big coaster we ever conquered.
