🎒 Farewell to an Icon: Thunderation at Silver Dollar City Is Closing 🎒

It’s a bittersweet moment for coaster fans and longtime visitors of Silver Dollar City. After more than 33 years of thrills, Thunderation is officially set to retire, with its final season running through 2026 and its last ride scheduled for January 2, 2027.

Since opening in 1993, Thunderation has been a rite of passage for so many guests. Built by Arrow Dynamics, this runaway mine train coaster hugs the Ozark terrain with over 3,000 feet of twisting track and has carried more than 27 million riders over the years. For many of us, it wasn’t just a ride — it was the first big coaster we ever conquered.

Silver Dollar City plans to celebrate Thunderation all throughout its final season with special events and commemorative moments honoring the ride’s incredible legacy. Rather than a quiet goodbye, it’s going out with a year-long celebration.

The ride’s closure will make way for the fictional Marvel Cave Mining Company to “resume operations” in that section of the park — tying back to the park’s deep history with Marvel Cave and the roots of Silver Dollar City itself.

An era is ending, but the memories aren’t going anywhere. If Thunderation holds a special place in your heart, 2026 will be the year to ride it one more time.
