Navigating Silver Dollar City with a Service Dog
Hey everyone! I wanted to continue my series on accessibility and service dogs at Silver Dollar City—this time focusing on helping service dog handlers navigate their day a little more easily.
When starting your day, be sure to stop by Guest Relations. Not only can you pick up a Rider’s Accessibility Guide, but you may also encounter a team member trained as an animal screener. They’ll ask the two legally permitted questions regarding your service animal before sending you on to the turnstiles to enjoy your day in the park.
When it comes to service animal relief areas, you have flexibility—any grassy or wood-chipped area can be used. Just be sure to clean up after your pup to help keep the park enjoyable for everyone.
Now, let’s talk about a few things you may want to consider avoiding if your service dog is sensitive to loud noises:
Loud or startling experiences:
- Areas where fake guns are used
- Street troupe performances in the Square (no set schedule)
- The Steam Train (begins running about 30 minutes after park opening)
- Frontier Follies Saloon Show (seasonal, typically starting in April)
Loud environments:
- Firehouse Playhouse in the Fire District — this area can get especially noisy with lots of children and features air-powered cannons that shoot foam balls
Planning ahead for these environments can help you and your service dog have a smoother, more comfortable visit.
